This Land Is Your Land

"This land is your land This land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and Me..." By Woodie Guthrie

How many of us grew up singing this song as a child?
Wether it was in summer camp or girl scouts, this song gives me a 'down home' - 'grass roots' kind of feeling. It grants me ownership and responsibility to the land that I call home. I am helping to teach my students just how special our Mother Earth is.

Be it in the country, suburbs and even in the big city, we all have a big responsibility to care for the world around us.

I'm encouraging my kindergarten class to do the same. We are discussing the importance of the land, water and air surrounding us; how delicate these environments are and what we can do to help keep them clean and healthy.

Using coffee filters and markers, my students explored a chromatography technique to create their Earth art and wrote their promises to help keep the environment clean.

Will you join us in taking care of our Mother Earth and helping to keep the environment clean?
